Our Approach
Travel thoughtfully. Choose locally where possible.
A good trip is shaped by the choices behind it. Here is how we approach travel, what guides our recommendations, and what we will and won’t promise.
Why it matters.
Tourism can create valuable opportunities for local communities. But where travellers spend their money matters: a significant share can go to large hotel groups and outside investors rather than to the independent businesses, families, makers and local hosts who give a place its character.
Every destination has its own challenges, and we don’t believe there is one simple answer. What we can do is make thoughtful choices when designing a journey, looking for ways to help more of what you spend reach the people who live and work there, without making your trip any less comfortable or memorable.
What we look for.
When we select places and experiences for an itinerary, we give particular attention to:
- Guesthouses, homestays and small independent stays run by local hosts
- Boutique stays and activities where local ownership or management can reasonably be verified
- Family-run restaurants, local food spots and independent food producers
- Artisans, workshops and cultural activities led by people from the area
- Local guides and small independent operators
- Experiences that respect local traditions and communities rather than turning them into a show
- Environmental and social projects with activities and results that can be documented
We don’t automatically exclude resorts, international hotels or luxury stays. Sometimes they are the right choice for a trip. When we suggest one, we’ll explain why.
What we won’t do.
- Call a place sustainable just because it uses words like eco, green, local or conscious
- Invent certifications, partnerships, ownership details or environmental data
- Promise a positive impact we can’t verify
Ownership, supply chains and the real effects of tourism are not always easy to establish with certainty. When we’re not sure, we say so. Transparency is part of the service.
Travel thoughtfully. Choose locally where possible.
We believe the best journeys leave room for meaningful encounters, local discoveries and choices that reflect what matters to you.
We’ll help you explore your options thoughtfully, while being honest about what we know and what we can’t guarantee.
